Hello everyone, and happy Tuesday! Today it’s all about beaches and beach bars…
USA Today is conducting a pool, and they want to know which Caribbean beach & Caribbean beach bar is your favorite. Unfortunately none of our beach bars here on St. John made the cut, but two over in the BVI did!
Soddy Dollar Bar and Hendo’s Hideout in Jost Van Dyke are both vying for the title of Best Caribbean Beach Bar in USA Today’s latest 10 Best poll. They’re up against some other fun spots like Sunshine’s in Nevis and Elvis’ Beach Bar in Anguilla. Both are great places to relax and indulge, but which one should take the top spot? Click this link to vote for your favorite Caribbean beach bar in the poll.
One of our beaches did make the cut, however, when it comes to the best Caribbean beach. Honeymoon is in the running against some other great spots like Grace Bay in the Turks and Caicos and Seven Mile Beach in the Cayman Islands. I’m pretty surprised that Trunk Bay didn’t make the list when it’s clearly one of the most beautiful beaches in the world! Click here to vote for your favorite Caribbean beach in the poll.
Ok, since St. John wasn’t represented as much as we hoped in USA Today’s 10 Best poll, we decided we’re going to conduct our own poll! Vote for your favorites below! We will announce the winner at the end of the week. 🙂

Where is Saltwell Bottom beach? I have been coming to STJ for 26 years and have never heard of it.
It is at Hansen Bay. ”
Saltwell Bottom Beach, St. John — Great Expectations. February 23, 2022. This cute little privately-owned beach out on the East End is a very nice place to spend a half or full day with a cooler. There are a few parking spots, a fence to block off the road, and 7 umbrellas with chaise lounge chairs. There is a small admission fee ($3 a person in 2022) and then a charge if you want an umbrella, chaise lounges or more.”
Thank you. Have been there more times than I can count. I didn’t know it had a name other than Hansen Beach.
Hi Jenn – thanks VERY much for putting in the time and effort to make your site so wonderful and the frequent updates are great, too. Of the 30+ islands we’ve visited over the last 30 years, St. John will always be our favorite for so many reasons. Although we don’t visit as much as we used to, we know most of the places you cover, and any we don’t know are definitely on our to-do list for the next time. Sadly, as with everywhere else, what holds us back are the prices we’re seeing. Wow. Just wow. FWIW, Kathy and I are semi-retired (I’m a guitar teacher and professional musician; Kathy is a retired public school educator) and our more or less on a fixed income which most definitely has NOT kept pace with inflation. I get it that owners of rental property on St. John will always set prices upon “what the market will bear” and I guess I just have to admit that St. John trips on a spur of the moment decision are gone, probably forever. Going to St. John again is certainly near the top of our list of places we’d like to revisit. I just hope that St. John is not going to turn into a place only for well-off people. Sorry for the semi-rant! In any case, keep up the great work with your site. I’m sure there are hundreds if not thousands of people who appreciate being able to live vicariously through your posts!
Two beaches I love are Denis and Oppenheimer. 🙂 Although I think my favorite changes after almost every visit. 🙂
Would have been Maho, prior to having it defaced by John Yob and the lamentable Crossroads. Paradise Lost.
Agreed😥
Glad to see Nevis on the list! definitely worthy! Beautiful country.
I absolutely loved Nevis when I visited a few years ago. What a beautiful country!
