I have sad news to share with you all today. Rhumb Lines has closed its doors in Coral Bay. According to online postings, they did not get a lease renewal.
Rhumb Lines was a popular Asian fusion restaurant that opened in Cruz Bay more than 20 years ago. It was a fun little spot that was pretty tricky to find. Its entrance was located in the back of a convenience store that was located across the street from The Longboard, an unusual spot even by St. John standards. But once you entered Rhumb Lines’ courtyard, it was magical. Their Sunday brunch, back then, was one of my favorites.

The restaurant left that location back in late 2018 and reopened in Coral Bay soon after at a space previously occupied by their sister restaurant, Indigo Grill. The two restaurants eventually merged and Rhumb Lines had been operating in that space ever since. Prior to Indigo Grill, the space housed Donkey Diner, one of my old favorites, and Sputnik Bar.
Once Rhumb Lines left what’s known as Meada’s Plaza, a few restaurants opened in its place over the years, including Shaibu’s, Meada’s Garden and, most recently, Hind’s. Currently, there is not a restaurant operating in that space. The convenience store was removed after Rhumb Lines left, and that space was merged into the restaurant area.
I haven’t heard what will eventually go into the old Rhumb Lines spot, but I will let you know when I do. Have a great day everyone, and thanks for reading.
