Tomorrow is the annual 8 Tuff Miles race, and there will be a lot of road closures to go along with it.
There are 1,259 people registered to run the race this Saturday. That is an impressive amount! The race begins tomorrow morning at 7:15 a.m. behind the ball field in Cruz Bay. Participants will run in front of Mongoose before taking a left at Nella’s and Cool Breeze Car Rentals. They will head up to the roundabout and then up Centerline Road, which is Route 10 on the map. From there, they will run or walk all the way to Coral Bay. The race ends at the ball field just before Skinny Legs.
The road in front of Mongoose will be closed until the last runner passes. Centerline Road will be closed for several hours, so if you are staying in Coral Bay and want to get to Cruz Bay or the beaches, you need to leave before 7 a.m.
There is a three-hour time limit for 8 Tuff Miles. The road will reopen beginning in Cruz Bay and across the island to Coral Bay as the last runner passes a specific area. You will not be able to drive along Centerline Road from Coral Bay until 10:15 a.m. at the earliest.
There will be water stations and bands along the way. If you are staying on island, come and join us! It is such a fun event!
I’m in charge of the Mile 8 Water Station again this year. Feel free to walk up to us from Coral Bay and help out. We are about a quarter mile up from the main intersection in Coral Bay. Feel free to send me a text at 203-376-3786 if you’d like to join us.
