The Animal Care Center is holding a fundraising event this Friday, April 19th at The Beach Bar. Yappy Hour – happy hour for the dogs – will be held on the beach from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The one we held back in December was such a success that we decided to do it again!

Tito’s, a vodka brand that loves dogs, is generously donating $2 from each Tito’s drink sold to the Animal Care Center of St. John. And making this even more attractive, all Tito’s drinks are just $6 each during hour happy at The Beach Bar, which happens daily from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tito’s will raffle off six items during the event, including three swag bags. There will also be a 50-50 raffle.

Hello everyone, and happy Monday! The island is relatively slow right now, a tad slower than we’re used to in mid-April. It made me wonder whether airfare may be affecting the number of visitors on island right now. So I did a little digging to see just how pricey airfare is, and I was pleasantly surprised about what I found! There are so many deals to be had from numerous airports across the country, so perhaps you can use that tax refund and visit us! Just a thought… 🙂
In addition to cheap airfare over the next month or so, we have several discounted vacation rental opportunities at the moment. While searching for airfare, I found some for as little as $150 roundtrip and numerous for under $500 roundtrip. Those are are some pretty good prices! As always, I used Google Flights’ Explore function to find the fares listed below. It’s pretty simple. Just visit www.google.com/travel/explore. Type in your home airport. Then type STT where it says “Where to?” and then click “1-week trip in the next 6 months” beside the calendar. That will display the cheapest time to visit us. You can choose how many stop you want to make, airlines, and more. It’s a pretty cool tool to use when making travel plans. Here is what I found:

Looking to visit paradise within the next month? Well you’re in luck! If you are traveling from the Atlanta area, you can do so for as little as $138 round trip! Yes, that is on Spirit, so the price will probably double after you choose a seat, bags, etc., but that is still super cheap. Prefer a direct flight? Delta is offering fares for $500 roundtrip toward the end of the summer.
Baltimore

You, too, can visit us next month Baltimore friends! Spirit is a mere $238 round trip for a visit from May 4th through May 10th. Prefer a better airline? You can fly roundtrip on Delta those same dates for only $517 round trip. Not too shabby!

How does $348 round trip on Delta sound? Amazing, I know! This fare is good for the last weekend of May. Get a jump on your summer vacation, and come visit us!

Ok, so a nonstop flight will cost you $785 round trip, but a flight on Spirit is only $200 round trip! I would take the risk of Spirit to save that amount of cash. I flew Spirit to Orlando last month, and I have to admit, it wasn’t that bad! I would actually say that it was a good experience. So don’t let Spirit scare you. I suggest giving it a try to save some cash if you can.

BIG SAVINGS ALERT for our friends in Chicago! Come and visit this July for only $519 round trip! And it’s a nonstop flight! This fare is good for July 20th through July 27th. The island should be nice and quiet then, so come and visit!

Put that tax refund to good use and visit us in late May! You can fly for under $400 roundtrip on American or under $500 roundtrip on Delta for visits from May 20th through May 29th. Celebrate Memorial Day with us!

Dallas is further away, so it’s expected that you will have to pay a bit more than our East Coast friends. If you want a major airline, you can fly between $700 and $800 roundtrip. Want a budget airline? Spirit is offering fares for $364 roundtrip. Again, I think the risk outweighs the negative on this one!

Green Bay! You can fly and arrive in time for the fireworks on July 4th! And you can do so for only $476 on Delta! You can probably even make it in time to catch the tail end of the parade! Carrying luggage through town might be a challenge, so I would suggest staying somewhere close to the ferry dock for this one. 🙂

Start packing your bags Houston friends, because you can visit soon! You can fly on May 4th for just $264 roundtrip on Spirit with a stop in Ft. Lauderdale. Prefer to fly direct? You can do so for $727 roundtrip on United. Not a bad price coming from Texas!

This one is pretty amazing too! You can fly for under $400 roundtrip on American, under $500 roundtrip on Delta or a mere $270 roundtrip on Spirit. These fares are good from travel May 5th through May 14th.

You’re pretty close to us, so it’s no wonder that airfare is pretty cheap. You can fly for under $150 round trip from Ft. Lauderdale or for just over $400 roundtrip from Miami. These fares are good May 9th through May 15th.

Our friends in the tri-state area are always some of the luckiest when it comes to airfare. You can fly for just $231 roundtrip out of JFK or Newark from June 2nd through June 8th. The island will be quiet and the water will be warm. It’s a great time to visit!

My family flew Spirit to Orlando last month, and it was absolutely fine. And with these prices, how can you say no??!! You can fly for just $145 roundtrip in just a few weeks. You know you want to!

And last, but not least are our friends up in Philadelphia. You will want to get trip insurance for this one, as you are flying close to the peak of hurricane season. But the good news is that the island will be super, super quiet during your stay. You can visit us in late August for around $600 roundtrip. Not too shabby!
So as you can see, airfare is definitely trending down, which is great news for all of us who love to travel! Airfare is inexpensive and vacation rentals are discounted at the moment. So what are you waiting for? Book that trip! 🙂

For those of you who are on island currently or plan to visit this weekend, you can expect rotating power outages thanks to our completely inept power company.
The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority (WAPA) announced the rotating outages Thursday afternoon, blaming “unforeseen circumstances.” They went on to say it’s due to “inclement weather and low fuel inventory.” Isn’t it their job to make sure we have enough fuel? Ugh.
It looks as though we will have rolling outages every six hours from Friday through Sunday. The outages will last two hours each time.
St. John has two feeders – 7E and 9E. The neighborhoods on each feeder are listed below:
(The asterisk beside Cruz Bay, East End and Centerline Road indicates that the feeder is split among the two feeders.)
Feeder 7E will be off from 12 a.m. to 2 a.m., 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. April 12th through April 14th.
Feeder 9E will be off from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m., 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., and 10 p.m. to 12 a.m. April 12th through April 14th.
So what can you do? Ask if your accommodation has a backup generator. If not, ask if they have a flashlight, rechargeable fan, etc. If they don’t, I’d recommend running to the store tonight or tomorrow and bringing one with you. Most of us live off of cistern water, which means that you cannot use water without power. So that’s another thing to think about.

We have been extremely busy here over the past few months, and one of the top questions I’ve been receiving from my island tour guests is about the availability of food and drinks at the beach. So today I thought I’d do a quick rundown of where you can grab a bite to eat at the beach, which beaches have bars and most importantly to some of you, which beach has happy hour in the morning. Hint: It’s one of the most famous beaches in the world! Here we go!

The Caneel Bay Beach Club is located at Honeymoon Beach, although it has no affiliation with the troubled resort. The owner simply leases the space from them from what I’ve been told. The Caneel Bay Beach Club has a full bar, which is located at the eastern edge of the beach, as well as a new food truck. (More to come on that soon!) The Caneel Bay Beach Club also has lounge chair rentals for $25 a day, showers, restrooms and a retail shop. You can walk here via the Lind Point Trail from Cruz Bay (roughly a mile) or you can take their transportation through the shuttered resort for $6 per person, per way. Reservations are not required. You can visit Honeymoon Beach without patronizing Caneel Bay Beach Club if you wish.

Trunk Bay has a robust food program with more than two dozen lunch options, which includes both hot and cold items. There is a full bar here and an abundance of picnic tables to sit at while enjoying your lunch. Happy Hour starts in the morning at Trunk Bay, so go ahead and indulge in some specials from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. seven days a week. There are also chair and snorkel rentals available at Trunk Bay. Cinnamon Bay

There are numerous food and beverage options at Cinnamon Bay due to the campground that is located there. Looking for a quick snack? The camp store opens daily at 10 a.m. Looking for something more substantial for lunch when spending the day at the beach? They have an updated food trailer next to the beach that offers hot and cold options, a limited bar and soft serve ice cream. For those of you who prefer a sit-down lunch, you can dine over the main restaurant that’s located closer to the entrance of Cinnamon Bay. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week, and is open to the public. Cinnamon Bay has restrooms, a spigot to wash your feet, chair rentals, kayak rentals and more. Maho Bay
A tiki bar and turtles… need I say more? Maho Bay is somewhat split into two halves – you have turtles on the left and a party on the right (when looking at it from the overlook above). There are two businesses located on the west side of the beach – Maho Crossroads and Reef2Peak. Both businesses serve lunch, and both have full bars onsite. They offer kayak, paddle board and snorkel rentals, as well as small retail shops. Both of these businesses are located across the street from the beach at Maho Bay.
