Major Road Closure Saturday

The island’s main road will be closed to traffic on Saturday, February 28th from 7:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.

Today’s post will be rather short and sweet. There is going to be a major road closure tomorrow, so you will really need to plan ahead.

The 8 Tuff Miles road race takes place tomorrow from 7:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. This is a running race that starts behind the ball field in Cruz Bay, heads up to the roundabout via the road beside Nella’s and Cool Breeze Car Rental, and then heads out toward Coral Bay on Route 10 (Centerline Road). The race ends at the ball field just before Skinny Legs.

These roads will be closed to all vehicle traffic for the duration of the race.

When the last runner passes through an area, that road will reopen. That means that the road in front of Mongoose Junction will reopen rather quickly. Route 10 (Centerline Road) will take much longer to reopen. The race is capped at three hours, so everything will be completely open after 10:15 a.m.

If you are staying in Coral Bay, you will need to drive up from the main Coral Bay intersection by 7 a.m. to ensure you do not get stuck. An alternative route to town is to take Route 20 (North Shore Road) past the beaches to town. You still will have to get to the Route 10 and Route 20 intersection (near Colombo’s) by 7:15 a.m.

Nearly 1,500 runners are expected to compete in the race.
